Soldiers from the Wisconsin National Guard's 951st "Sapper" Engineer Company are returning from Afghanistan.
About 100 soldiers from the Tomahawk and Rhinelander-based unit left Wisconsin last November and landed in Afghanistan this past February.
Their tasks included searching for improvised explosives, scouting and gathering identifying data from local residents.

Capt. Bobby Cabaniss has a lot to be thankful for this year.
His family, his love for his country, opportunities overseas that most never get to experience — and of course, the Big Blue.
Cabaniss is a Medical Operation Officer with the Kentucky National Guard, the 138 Fires Brigade out of Lexington.
He's looking forward to heading home for the Thanksgiving holiday — though home is a long away right now, as the Somerset man is all the way on the other side of the world.

infoZine - American Forces Press Service - Millett, 88, died in Loma Linda, Calif., after serving for more than 15 years as the honorary colonel of the 27th Infantry Regiment Association.
Millet received the Medal of Honor for his actions Feb. 7, 1951.
He led the 25th Infantry Division's Company E, 27th Infantry, in a bayonet charge up Hill 180 near Soam-Ni, Korea.

Two years ago, Army Reserve Specialist Darlene Lewis was facing a bleak holiday season for her four children.
But thanks to the generosity of the Holiday Cheer Brigade which provides money and gifts from Madison residents, it turned out to be a wonderful season for the Lewis family.
"It was the best blessing in the world," said Lewis, a single mother who was given enough money to buy food, clothes and other gifts for her four children.

We join the greater Richlands community in welcoming home the soldiers of the 1033 Engineer Support Company following a year-long deployment in Afghanistan as part of the Global War on Terror.
The soldiers left Tazewell County last November for their overseas deployment.
Their long journey came to an end last week, as the brave men and women of the 1033 began arriving back home in Virginia in different groups.
